Brand strategy and design for life science companies at all stages of growth

While all companies are interested in raising awareness and driving growth, not all market sectors share the same branding needs or experience the same development trajectories. In our experience, biotech and pharmaceutical companies have unique needs that continue to evolve as their technologies mature or their therapeutic candidates advance through the clinic. Often launching as small, privately held start-ups with pre-clinical assets, life science companies’ early branding and messaging typically target limited audiences via their name, logo and a simple website. However, if all goes well, those audiences continuously change and expand as companies build their employee base, initiate clinical trials, prepare for an IPO, seek partners, prepare to file an NDA, or launch their first product. With success comes increasingly complex branding, messaging, websites, and marketing collateral.

D&CO has worked with life science companies for more than 15 years. Our work often spans years of growth and our client partnerships have evolved as their needs have changed. Sometimes we are there in the early start-up phase, in other cases, we are engaged to help clarify the brand for a company that has advanced over time, is poised to bring a new drug to market, or seeks to build a patient community for a novel treatment. We have done it all!

Adimab

D&CO has worked with this successful biotech company since it was founded by serial entrepreneur Tillman Gerngross in 2007. We created their distinctive logo, brand platform and first two websites. As Adimab grew, we worked with Gerngross to ensure the brand and design assets reflected the company’s value and aspirations for growth. As part of our work, we developed seven annual cable car campaigns as part of Adimab’s presence at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco. The campaign, which highlighted their successful partnerships with top pharmaceutical companies and nimble biotechs, featured large-scale banners on every Powell & Market Street cable car. Ironwood

Dedicated to making a difference for people living with gastrointestinal diseases, Ironwood’s core values are reflected in everything they do. D&CO worked with Ironwood from the beginning, designing their timeless logo and initial brand assets in 2006. As the company grew, D&CO led a company-wide project to articulate their mission, vision and core values. This work led to a comprehensive graphic installation throughout their corporate headquarters to make their values lived.
