The foundation of Design & Co.’s approach resides in the core partnership of founders, Timothy Downing, Design Principal, and Justin Stone, Web Development Principal. Since 2001, the two partners have worked side by side to create a branding and interactive design firm founded on the rigors of quality design and high-level project execution.

Tim’s training and practice in the field of architecture has fostered a design process founded in thoughtful project exploration as a means to consistent, singular design solutions that are sophisticated and easily penetrable. Justin’s critical eye and uncompromising focus on detail ensures that all technology projects are delivered precisely according to each client’s expectations.

Timothy M. Downing Partner & Design Principal Tim received his formal design training in architecture, having received a Master of Architecture from Yale University in 1996 and a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University in 1988. Prior to co-founding Design & Co. in 2001, Tim practiced architecture in Boston’s most reputable design firms, including Thompson & Rose Architects, Schwartz/Silver Architects, Inc., Michael Van Valkenburg Associates, Kallmann, McKinnell & Wood, Inc., Koetter Kim & Associates and Kyu Sung Woo Architect, Inc. As Design Principal at Design & Co., Tim has received six regional and one national communication awards from the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and an American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design/USA.
Justin Stone Partner & Web Development Principal
Justin Stone Partner & Web Development Principal Justin brings to Design & Co. more than twenty years experience as a business owner and technical project manager. Prior to co-founding Design & Co., Justin managed the implementation of fifteen market leading educational software products for Houghton Mifflin Company and was a founding partner of ColdPasta, a successful web development firm. At Design & Co., Justin has managed the development of award winning websites for numerous outstanding clients. Justin believes that when design and technology are employed thoughtfully in the service of business development goals, the result is at once engaging, effective, and enduring.
Bridget Alexander Senior Designer
Bridget Alexander Senior Designer Prior to joining D&CO in 2013, Bridget was the Senior Graphic Designer at NEMO Equipment, an outdoor equipment company with an intense focus on specialized product design. Under Bridget’s lead, NEMO’s visual brand was elevated and refined, cementing the company’s street cred in the innovative gear market and increasing brand recognition both domestically and internationally. She created thoughtful and innovative design across all media, including print, packaging, environment, and web. Bridget is also an experienced freelance designer, with clients as diverse as Boston Children’s Hospital, Charlestown Maritime Center, and MIT. She is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Colgate University. When not facing the cinema display of her Mac, Bridget can usually be found on her yoga mat or listening to Jay Z.
Alan Bergstein Internet Marketing Strategist
Alan Bergstein Internet Marketing Strategist Alan is a results-focused, bottom-line driven multi-channel marketing and media executive with a record of capitalizing on rapidly evolving technologies to deliver significant revenue and profit growth. Alan helps businesses connect with their audiences by engaging content across different forms of digital, social, and print media, in-person events, and eLearning methods. Key strengths include: in-depth expertise and currency in web 2.0 internet and social applications in sales, marketing, and e-commerce. Content management and delivery through Internet/digital/mobile channels, including, SEO and SEM, social networking, search, data mining, behavioral targeting and analytics. Bergstein is fully current on web 2.0 opportunities and clear ability to monetize opportunities, enhanced by recent Masters Degree in Internet Marketing. Genevieve de Manio Photographer
Genevieve de Manio Photographer Since the company’s founding, Gigi has created engaging and memorable portraits, lifestyle photographs, and architectural and food photographs for numerous D&CO clients. Noteworthy projects include food/product photography for Russo’s, Katsiroubas Produce, the Cottage Restaurant, and Perimeter Brand Packaging; architectural photography for Pembroke Real Estate and Ai-3 Architects; and lifestyle and portrait photography for Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Adimab, Blueprint Medicines, Immuneering, Pickard Chilton, ARC, and Steffian Bradley. When not taking photographs for D&CO, Gigi works as one of the nation’s preeminent wedding photographers, having photographed events throughout the country and internationally, including the Chelsea Clinton/Marc Mezvinsky and Nate Berkus/Jeremiah Brent weddings. Gigi received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hollins University in Roanoke, VA and is a graduate of the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, GA.

Gary Pikovsky Creative Director
Gary Pikovsky Creative Director A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Gary brings over 9 years of cross-media design experience to the D&CO team. Prior to joining Design & Co., Gary worked at a number of domestic and international studios, including Pentagram, Beam Interactive, The Partners and Weymouth Design. As a design leader and contributor, Gary has participate in projects that have won numerous design awards and honors, including those form Graphis, FWA Site of the Day, Awwwards Site of the Day, Print, Then BoNE Show, HOW International, and Art Directors Club. Gary received his Bachelor of Science in Design from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Science in Design from North Carolina State University, When he is not problem solving or writing in third-person, Gary enjoys windsurfing, zoology, and semi-ripe nectarines.
Bill Purdin Copy Director
Bill Purdin Copy Director Bill has lived in ten states, fought in a war, spent eight years in college and graduate school; he’s been a teacher, a writer, a publisher, an advertising executive, a photographer, and a freefall skydiving instructor. His career began at The New York Times. What he really likes to do is study, research and write. He has worked for over 300 clients and on over 17,000 projects, not including his own books and poetry. For him, every project is a challenge of intuition and description. Bill believes that there is a story in everything if you dig deep enough, think hard enough, and if you really want to find it. Bill really wants to find it.
Liza Snell Brand Strategist
Liza Snell Brand Strategist Liza brings over 15 years of experience to the role of strategic brand planning and research for Design & Co. clients. Her work is dedicated to understanding the hearts and minds of consumers and how they connect and create relationships with brands. She is focused on helping brands position themselves for growth and success. Her experience spans a broad range of business categories including fashion and apparel, footwear, financial services, healthcare technology, and real estate. Liza has held executive management positions as Brand Director at Clarke Communication Group in Boston, MA and Director of Strategic Planning for Toth Brand Imaging in Cambridge, MA. She was also General Manager and Executive Producer at AR New York. Liza earned an MBA from Harvard University in 2001 and is a former trustee of Colgate University, her alma mater.
Liz Welsh Tompkins Producer - Web & Interactive Media
Liz Welsh Tompkins Producer - Web & Interactive Media Liz brings more than 15 years of web development experience to Design & Co. and has particular expertise in content management implementation, database integration, organic search engine optimization, and search marketing strategy. Liz is responsible for meeting each client's expectations from the beginning of production through a successful launch and training. Since joining Design & Co. in 2010, Liz has developed robust and technically advanced websites for diverse clients including Bruner Cott & Associates, Raw Art Works, and Halvorson Design Partnership., a website Liz created and has led for more than a decade, was selected as InStyle Magazine's Best of the Web and by Linkshare Corporation for Best Use of Niche Marketing.
Christina Van Vleck Senior Designer
Christina Van Vleck Senior Designer Christina has been a lead designer for Design & Co. since 2003. In addition to her superior skills as a graphic and web designer, Christina specializes in the communication of complex information. She has over eight years of experience designing both print and digital collateral, including brand/identity systems, annual reports, brochures, books, conference materials, websites and infographics. Recent Design & Co. projects include Schwartz Silver Architects, Bergmeyer, Architectural Heritage Foundation, Dewing & Schmid Architects and Hartman Windows and Doors. Christina holds a MFA in Graphic Design from Boston University and a BA in International Affairs, Economics, and Environmental Studies from New York University.
Jamison Wright Designer
Jamison Wright Designer A new addition to the D&CO design team, Jamison thrives on the ebb and flow of the creative process and his design sensibility is built on a foundation of discovery and exploration. Jamison possesses the unique ability to both design and program for the web and his technical knowledge of the medium helps drive digital innovation in the studio. Jamison graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Graphic Design.
Melissa Wylie Brand Strategist
Melissa Wylie Brand Strategist Melissa is a big-picture thinker who likes to focus on upstream brand strategy and positioning. In her career as a marketing executive and consultant, she has led global product launches at Gillette, created a consumer division at a medical device company, built a beauty brand from scratch, and repositioned business service companies to increase profitability. Melissa aspires to clarity, both in upfront analysis and design execution. From her corporate background, she is adept at defining business opportunities and evaluating the return on investment. Her artistic side understands the power of language and design to connect with audiences and telegraph brand essence. Melissa has an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt and B.A. in English from Davidson. To stay on her learning edge, she has recently taken up voice lessons and cycling.
